Community Integration
Arriving in a new country can be a daunting experience, especially if you have been through trauma and loss. Our welcome services aim to reach out to people when they are most isolated. At the heart of the Meeting place we encourage and foster welcoming and inclusive communities which are based on ideas of integration.
A taste of Harmony
A Taste of Harmony provides an opportunity for genuine connection and sharing some seriously delicious food. Carly Day, chef of Ja Joint in Brisbane has Jamaican and British heritage.
A Taste of Harmony acts as a mechanism to steer conversations towards learning about different cultures.
English support classes
Not being able to speak English is one of the biggest barriers to integration for refugees and asylum seekers. We offer a variety of classes, from beginners English right through to high level courses for those wanting to get into work. It’s also a lot of fun and a chance to bond as a community of learners!
British Values
At the MTC Learning we understand that fundamental British Values underpin what it is to be a citizen in a modern and diverse Great Britain valuing our community and celebrating the diversity of the UK. Classes are held each Friday to discuss these values as well as many other aspects of respect, tolerance and understanding.
Employability
A key part of the Meeting Place’s work is to help disadvantaged individuals change their lives through accessing Employment, apprenticeship as well as training opportunities. We work in close partnerships with Employers and with many organisations from the private, public, and voluntary sector who offer training and support to increase employability skills.
Zumba
Boosts your heart health. You not only get aerobic benefits (it really gets your heart rate up), you also get anaerobic benefits – the kind that help you maintain a good cardiovascular respiratory system.
It’s fun. The more you enjoy your exercise routine, the more likely you are to stick with it.
