At the MTC we understand that fundamental British Values underpin what it is to be a citizen in a modern and diverse Great Britain valuing our community and celebrating the diversity of the UK. These mirror the Meeting Place’s and MTC Learning principles, values and vision.
At the Meeting place we teach that fundamental British Values are not exclusive to being British and are shared by other democratic countries as a way of creating an orderly society, where individual members can feel safe, valued and can contribute for the good of themselves and others.
At the MTC we teach people about:
Democracy where we imbibe a culture built upon freedom and equality, where everyone is aware of their rights and responsibilities. We also support students with an understanding of how citizens can influence decision-making through a democratic process
Rule of Law – The need for rules to make a happy, safe and secure environment to live and work. Students also learn that an appreciation that living under the rule of law which protects individual citizens is essential for their wellbeing and safety
Respect and Tolerance – Understanding that we all don’t share the same beliefs and values and everyone’s beliefs and values must be respected Whilst, respecting the values, ideas and beliefs of others, we must not impose our own on others.
An understanding of the importance of identifying and combating discrimination-
An acceptance that other people have different faiths and beliefs to oneself (or having none) should be accepted and tolerated, and should not be the cause of prejudicial or discriminatory behaviour
Individual Liberty – Protection of your rights and the right of others.
An understanding that the freedom to choose and hold other faiths and beliefs is protected in law.
Responsiblity – We all have a responsibility to promote and protect the well-being of others.
Classes are held each Friday to discuss these values as well as many other aspects of respect, tolerance and understanding.
